MBA Programs

There are a large number of MBA programs in the United States and around the world. Here are some of the types of programs available:

Full Time MBA Programs

Full time MBA programs are usually two years in length and students are typically expected to attend school full time and a full workload of classes. Often times the summer break is utilized for internships to help prepare students for obtaining a job after graduation.

Professional MBA Programs

Professional MBA programs, also referred to as part time MBA programs, are usually about three years in length with the summers spent taking business classes as well. These programs are for students that are fully employed and therefore classes are usually held in the evenings or on weekends. Since students are employed full time, students are expected only to take a partial class load. Often times, professional MBA students will have all or a portion of their tuition and school expenses paid by their employer. However, this generally requires that the student remain with the company after graduation for a specified number of years or pay back the company for the expenses.

Executive MBA Programs

Executive MBA programs are for highly experienced professionals. Executive programs usually have courses in the evenings or weekends similar to professional MBA programs. However, some executive MBA programs have students take a leave from their work to attend courses full time for a shorter period of time. Typically, executive MBA programs are paid in full by the companies that employ the students and some executive MBA programs even require that the company sponsor the student. Executive MBA programs differ from professional MBA programs in that the students are expected to be more of an executive level and thus have many more years of experience and strong careers already. Therefore, executive MBA programs are quite valuable not only for the educational portion, but for the networking aspect of the program as well.

Distance Learning MBA Programs

Distance learning MBA programs are still fairly new, however more and more colleges and universities are offering an online MBA in addition to the traditional MBA programs. Distance learning MBA programs vary significantly. Some programs allow students to complete the MBA degree without ever attending a campus, while others require students to attend one week-long session per semester on campus in additional to the online coursework.
