Most MBA programs require that students take the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test). For top MBA programs, your GMAT score is one of the most important components of your application.
The GMAT test consists of an essay writing assessment, a verbal assessment, and a math assessment(Analytical Writing Assessment, Quantitative Assessment, and Verbal Assessment).
The GMAT essay writing assessment, referred to as the Analytical Writing Assessment, consists of two GMAT essays that you must write covering the topics "Analysis of an Issue" and "Analysis of an Argument". You are given 30 minutes each to complete the two essays.
The GMAT verbal assessment consists of 41 multiple choice questions which are either reading comprehension, critical reasoning, or sentence correction. You are given 75 minutes to complete this portion of the test.
The GMAT math assessment, referred to as the GMAT Quantitative Section, consists of 37 multiple choice questions which are either Data Sufficiency or Problem Solving. You are given 75 minutes to complete this portion of the test.
The GMAT score is made up of four scores: Analytical Writing Assessment, GMAT Verbal, GMAT Math (Quantitative), and GMAT Total Score. The Analytical Writing Assessment score is the average of the scores on the two essays that you write. The score range is between 0 and 6 with half-point increments. The GMAT Verbal score is between 0 and 60 and is based on the multiple choice questions. The GMAT Math (Quantitative) is between 0 and 60 and is based on the multiple choice questions. The GMAT Total Score is the combination of the GMAT Verbal score and the GMAT Math (Quantitative) score and has a range of 200 to 800.
